The fast pace of technology has left many of us with a number of perfectly functioning devices sitting in a drawer or storage bin in our homes. While we might not be able to tell you what to do with your old Nokia dumb phone (ironic wall art for hipsters, maybe?), we do have some suggestions on what you can do with smart devices you have that still work, but are just outdated.

When it comes to smartphones there are a slew of ways to use an old device in place of an expensive system. Multiple apps are available for both Android and iOS users that allow for live streaming, motion alerts and video recording, which makes an old smartphone the perfect device to use for home monitoring. Home monitoring smartphone apps are also significantly cheaper than purchasing an entire system.

Old smartphones and tablets can also be used as a dedicated eReader, a second screen or a universal remote, among other uses.
