HP Puts a New Spin on Thin & Light with the ENVY Sleekbook 6z Everyone knows there is a price you pay for portability: limited ports, little if any upgrade options and maybe a few differences in the look and feel of a system. However, at the end of the day it is all about form and function, and that is where the HP ENVY Sleekbook 6z may have an operational edge.
Okay, although it may not technically fit exactly ijnto the category of an 'ultrabook', the Sleekbook 6z (also called the Sleekbook 6z-1000) is one thin and light notebook - about two-thirds the height and weight of a normal 15.6-inch notebook at just 0.78 inches and 4.75 lbs. It is larger than your average ultraboook, so maybe not as portable, but this 15.6-inch system may be just the ticket for someone looking for something that won't break the bank or your back.
The Sleekbook 6z is certainly an attractive little number, with its brushed aluminum exterior and red soft-touch paint finish on the bottom. There is also a minimal use of plastic in the design and clever speaker placement, just below the lid. The system has a solid build, minus a lot of the flex associated with ultrabook-class machines.
Yes, the system does lack any kind of upgradeability, and there is no easy way to add a different hard drive or more RAM. The long-life battery is also not interchangeable. But, the fact is a lot of people would much rather have a sleek and functional notebook than something you want to tinker with all the time.
