Beyond the Realm of Tolkien Ripoffs: Different MMORPGs

No matter how you dress them up, the bulk of today's MMOs offer relatively similar gameplay. Many also have very similar worlds: dwarves, dragons, elves, magic. We take a look at games which offer something that's unique, interesting, or odd. They cover a wide range of playstyles and tastes; "different" isn't a genre, and it's unlikely any reader will find all of them equally appealing. Most are free to play; all are free to try.

Fallen Earth Fallen Earth is not the only post-apocalyptic game on the market, but its combat sequences, play-crafting features and captivating landscapes make it a jolting action-adventure worth checking out. You can play it for free with some limitations, or pay for one of three different tiers of paid subscription, starting at $10 per month. There is a cash shop as well. *Note*: The Download button takes you to the vendor's site, where you can download the latest version of the software.
Shifty Chica Relaxed and easygoing, designer Ray Larabie's Shifty Chica font from is perfect for invitations, posters, and other display uses. Regardless of the nefarious-sounding name, this TrueType font's deep descenders with extra curly serifs make me want to dig out my 1950's one-piece and stir up some Cherry Cola Salad. It sets the right mood for a Hawaiian-themed party invitation. *Note*: To use this font, unzip the folder and install the .ttf file in the folder C:\Windows\Fonts. Note that the font won't appear in your applications until you close and re-open them.
